I have read some amazing books already this year, along with a fair amount of mindless schlock. Here are the top ten, so far:
- All Passion Spent by Vita Sackville West
- Caste: the Origins of Our Discontent by Isabel Wilkerson
- In This House of Brede by Rumer Godden
- The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott – this is really an inclusion of Scott’s entire Raj Quartet. I am in the last half of book 4 right now, and will write a review of the whole series once I finish.
- Jubilee by Margaret Walker
- The Priory by Dorothy Whipple
- The Least of Us by Sam Quinones
- The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
- Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain
- If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin
I love The Priory and All Passion Spent and am impressed at the amount of praise I’ve seen for Caste. What a good collection!
It’s been a rewarding year, so far!
